Near the waterfront, the remains of the 17th-century Dutch Fort now house a prison. Negombo Lagoon, lined with fishermen’s huts, feeds into the Dutch-era Hamilton Canal. The canal leads south to Colombo. Neoclassical St. Mary’s Church, completed in the 1920s, features a ceiling decorated with vivid religious paintings.

[Day 5: Polonnaruwa (in the afternoon: Minneriya safari]

[Day 6: Sigiriya – Kandy (Kandy temple and Kandy dance]

[Day 7: Kandy – Nuwara Eliya]
After an early breakfast, today you will travel up the verdant green hills that surround Kandy and venture further into Sri Lanka’s most beautiful and magic region – the Hill Country – where the best tea in Sri Lanka is produced.
But before you leave, stop by the Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, outside of Kandy, for some tea history. Peradeniya is the birthplace of Ceylon Tea, where the first plants were brought from China in 1824. Twenty-eight years later, Scottish planter James Taylor established the first seedlings on an eight hectare plantation at the Loolecondera Estate between Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. It was the success of his plantation there that led to Nuwara Eliya becoming the epicenter of the Sri Lankan tea industry.
With its cool air, magnificent waterfalls, and thriving tea culture, the enchanting allure of these hills has to be seen to believe. The drive to Sri Lanka’s “Little England” is a highlight of any trip to Sri Lanka. You will take winding roads through the gorgeously lush plantations past tea bushes trimmed by regular picking that look like green sculptures stretching up and down the misty hills as far as the eye can see. Enjoy your journey – this is the complete experience.
Arrive in Nuwara Eliya and continue to your hotel to check-in.
Spend the rest of the day at your leisure with a cup of tea in your hand, enjoying your surroundings and the pleasant change in temperature

[Day 8: Yala – Mirissa]
